“There are a few wonderful souls who float into our lives over the years of our careers who just make our jobs wonderful. Liza is one of those gems. I met her a number of years ago when she came in to show me her portfolio. Her photographs took my breath away. One photograph stood out for me – a black and white of David Goldblatt standing on a shiny polished floor of the National Gallery – and a lady mopping the floor in the background. It was profound – it captured David’s wonderful smile and quirky sense of humor. What struck me was it is exactly the photograph that David himself would have taken – so here was a woman who I had never met before producing work as good as if not better than one of South Africa’s best photographers.
She left that day – and I just knew that we were going to work together and she was going to be one of those rare souls who would never not be in my life. Liza is courageous, kind, patient but firm and deeply talented. Liza’s photographs made my job pure joy – her photographs made my heart sing.”
